Cute Toilet Paper Pumpkins

I taught a bunch of ladies at my church how to make these a little while four years ago. After showing everyone how to put theirs together, I didn't have time to assemble my own. I am finally getting around to it. (I know, I'm pathetic.) I thought there might be some of you out there that would have fun with this project, so here you go:

Supplies: Roll of toilet paper, Quilt batting or polyfill, 25" square piece of orange fabric, 8"x4" piece of brown paper bag, Hot glue gun, Jute, Silk leaf, Floral wire, Wire cutters

1-Wrap your batting around the toilet paper roll. (Quilt batting cut in a large strip works better, but I didn't have any, so I just used polyfill.)

2-Place the TP and the batting in the middle of your piece of fabric and start tucking the edges into the middle of the roll. I started with a corner and just went around the fabric, trying to gather it evenly as I went. It took a few tries before I was happy with the results.

3-This is what it will look like when you are finished. You can use your fingers to scrunch it around and even the batting out if you need to.

4-The next step is making the stem. Take your 8"x4" piece of brown paper and roll it up tightly, starting with the short end.
5-When you get to the end, secure it with a little hot glue. (Or you could use tape, whatever makes you happy.)

6-Wrap your paper roll with jute, securing carefully with small dabs of hot glue as you go. I burned my finger–please don't do that!

7-When you get to the top, cut the jute and glue the end down with hot glue. You will notice that the left (bottom) of the stem isn't covered with jute. I needed something to hold onto so I wouldn't burn my fingers. (I burned them anyway, but hopefully you aren't as klutzy as I am.) That part won't show, so it's OK.

8-Stick the stem into the middle of your pumpkin. I had to force mine down, and it fit snug enough that I didn't need any glue.
9-Attach a leaf. I used a piece of ivy. I just clipped it off of one of my floral arrangements. (No one will notice, go ahead and do it. You have my permission.)

9-Take a piece of wire (I used green floral wire) and wrap it around a screwdriver, pencil, spoon handle, or anything similar.

10-Cut the wire into 2 pieces and insert them close to the leaf.

Isn't that cute?!?!

You can also use paper towel rolls for tall pumpkins and empty film canisters for tiny pumpkins. They look adorable in a grouping. If I ever finish the rest of mine, I will group them and post a picture. But don't hold your breath, it might not be till next fall.
