I.Am.A.Dork. Yep, I am. I knew we would be camping and 4-wheeling in the boonies last week, so I wrote up a few posts. Scheduled them so that they would post automatically. I was especially careful to do the linky party on Wednesday. I was so excited to be able to come home and see all your great projects.
Imagine my dismay when I got back and turned on my computer. Yes, I went a whole four days without a computer. I think that is a new record for me. It was hard but I survived.
Anyway, when I turned it on, I discovered that none of the scheduled posts had actually posted. Not one! Danggit. I have no idea what went wrong. I am so sad that I missed the link party. Hopefully you all saved up some projects so that this week can be the biggest ever.
On the bright side, now I have a bunch of home decorating ideas that I can share with you this week. Woohoo!
The first one is a Dollar Store craft. Man I love that place!
I saw this plaque months ago and knew it had potential. I actually saw four different sayings that I liked, so I bought them all. This one is the first one that I have finished. Here is the before:
I know. What the heck is up with the yellow on the edges? UGLY!
But after a couple coats of antique white spray paint and A LOT of stain, here is my new plaque:
Ahhh, much better.
This is the stain I used:
Here are a few tips in case you want to make one:
1-Make sure your spray paint is nice and dry before you apply the stain. I let mine cure for a couple days. I learned that if it isn't totally dried, it will rub off when you apply the stain. Not fun.
2-You will use a lot of stain to fill the crevices. I saturated my rag and daubed the stain into all the spaces. Then I rubbed the rag lightly over the surface.
3-Because the cracks are filled with stain, they will take a long time to dry. Be patient. I placed mine on a shelf out of the way and left them for a week.
