Just in case any of you are suffering from the delusion that my house is totally clean and organized, and that every room is decorated to perfection, I thought I'd share a little bit of what life is really like around here. I'm hoping that instead of cringing with horror, you will instead be thinking, "Oh good, I'm glad Kara is just like me." If your house is indeed perfect all the time and every room looks like a magazine cover, you should probably look away. You might even want to run far away. Because I don't want to be the cause of you getting sick or anything.
Are you ready? Brace yourselves.
We are in the process of replacing our poorly built, unstable, ugly deck that was leaking inot our house and ruined our wood floor. This is a current picture of the backside of our house:
Be sure to notice the rotting wood and the drop of death. Fun times.
Remember the living room makeover that I started three weeks ago? My walls still look like this:
Yep, bare nekkid. I still can't decide on how I want to arrange things. So I have piles of frames lined up on the floor, and a box full of accessories in the corner. BHG would be so proud. Not.
Next up is our front yard.
Makes you want to take off your shoes and run barefoot doesn't it? Not so much. See a few years ago through a series of mishaps, some orchard grass took over our lawn. Two years ago we ripped out the entire lawn and laid new sod. By hand. With no outside help. Turns out orchard grass will grow up through sod. Nice. So we have to spray Round-Up on it for a few months till every.single.blade is yellow. Then start over. Our neighbors are thrilled with the new look, because it makes their yards look fabulous in comparison. And at least we are saving on our water bill.
Last but not least. My brother is coming to stay with us for a few weeks/months. He'll be here tomorrow. He will be sleeping in what is now the playroom. My boys did a fabulous job of cleaning out the closet for him:
Problem is, they just put everything into the room. Looks nice and inviting, doesn't it.
Then of course their are the piles of girls skirts and rows of hairbows hanging from the fireplace mantle. Etsy sales are going slow, so I wanted to do a back to school boutique at my house to get rid of some inventory. But I just haven't had the time.
Does anybody know where I can find a genie? Ore even a wizard? I could really use some magic around here.

Oh Kara, you made my day. It is funny how we can all pretend on our blogs that our lives are so perfect and calm and all that other cr*p. Nice to know I am not the only one with a life that isn't always ready at a moments notice to have a magazine do a photo shoot. Thanks for getting real. Hmmmmm, I feel a linky party coming on where we can bare our true selves. I'll bet it would be a hoot.

Kara… thanks for sharing your pics! If only we had more time in the day we could finish off some of our "projects"… outside and in our "studios"! Happy crafting friend! Vicki
Story. Of. My. Life.

I love "reality" blog posts. Your pictures make me think of what our basement unfinished play (clutter) room looks like most of the time. I was so happy when the hall doors were hung this week to hide all of that clutter from me:)
I don't know where to find one, but when you find him, can you send him my way when your done? LOL
I laugh when I'm getting ready to take pictures of my house…because I have to move things out of the way to take pictures! I TOTALLY stage my pictures. I won't lie! LOL I take 'props' from one room to another, sometimes you might see the same thing in two rooms (have you ever noticed this in magazines…I have!)
My house looks like my pictures….when I clean. It lasts for about an hour, two if I'm lucky.
Agree!!! Our remodeling is taking forever and I'm getting SO far behind. Nothing is getting done and school starts in 2 days! CRAZY!
I'm not ready for school, but I'm hoping that at least I will be more productive with the house all to myself. We'll see.
I think we all suffer from having a list of "to dos" that is longer than our list of "finished"
all of a sudden, it will all fall into place and then you'll have oodles of new, amazing spaces!
That's what I'm hoping!
Oh, I am so sorry to hear about the grass/sod. We have been struggling for the past 3 years to get grass growing in our backyard. I think we are going to have to end up with putting down sod.
Dang, sorry you're dealing with stinkin' grass issues too. Hopefully at the end of it all we with both have gorgeous lawns. Or at least green ones.
I'm there with you! There are a lot of similarities between what you describe and my house! I feel for you girl!
Glad to know it's not just me.
Add me to the list of people saying, "Oh good! It's not just our house!" Way to keep it real.
I have decided what I really need is a stunt double. I'm on the lookout.
Stunt double. I like that. They've gotta be easier to find than a genie.
Oh, me, too!!!!!!!!!!! Everywhere I look there is a project needing to be started or finished.
Idea for your lawn – no need for Roundup. Instead put down clear plastic – painter's plastic works – for a few weeks. Google it. It still will be very unattractive while it's down, but you won't have Roundup in your soil. The label warnings are like reading a horror story.
I love this post because it is so true to life. You just lay it all out there – I love that about you! And I feel your pain – I hate looking around my home because it just remindes me of all the things I need to do… one. day.
Good luck with your grass… We have lived in our home for 3 years and I am finally getting the front yard to look right – but the back yard? YIKES!
Thanks Amanda. It's nice to know other bloggers share my pain.
Oh, but that room looks so warm and inviting….
