DIY Home Goals for 2013

I am a list maker. One of those crazy people that makes lists for everything. I sometimes actually write things on my “To-Do” list that I’ve already completed, just so I can cross them off. I know, I may need counseling.

2012 seemed to be the year of “start a really awesome project but only get it 80% finished”.
Which totally bugs this “need to cross things off my list” girl.

I’ve decided that maybe if I put my list out there for all of you to see, I will be more motivated to actually finish a few things. One can only hope!

So, here are my DIY goals for 2013. Yes, I do have other goals concerning loosing weight, becoming perfect, and conquering the world, but I won’t bore you with those. ;)

1-Finish the kitchen makeover.
The new floor is installed, the cabinets are painted. The new knobs are on. We just need to finish putting up the trim and baseboard. And hang new lights.
diy-projects2-Accessorize my entry shelf.
I painted it almost 9 months ago, and it still sits there, nekkid as a jaybird. Pitiful.

3-Hang a gallery wall in my hallway.
Remember when I installed molding in my upstairs hallway? No? Well I don’t blame you, it was last January. I actually started a gallery wall, I just need to finish it off.

This one might be the most embarrassing of all. Seriously, it’s like 98% done. I just need to put a few pictures in frames. Yes, I have had empty frames hanging on my wall for months. And not because it’s the in thing to do. ;)

5-Transform the playroom into a bedroom for Rachel.
She’ll be two in April. Time to move out of the crib and into a real bed. And a girlie room. I can hardly wait!

6-Spruce up our front porch.
I spend most of my time decorating the inside of my home, but I have seriously neglected the outside spaces. Our front porch has great potential, but right now it is dirty and uninviting. I need to work on the space that 100% of our visitors have to look at when they come to visit.

7-Decorate our back deck.
We replaced our old dysfunctional deck with a new, larger, covered one. I need to make it a warm, inviting space so that we will actually want to hang out there. This picture was taken over two years ago, right after we tore it down and were starting to re-build.

8-Makover the half bath on our main floor.
It’s had the same decorations since I think 1999. Totally outdated. I want to paint it a pale greyish blue to match my laundry room.

9-Clean out and organize my craft room.
My craft room currently looks like an episode of Hoarders. Yikes! Time to get rid of supplies that I’ve had for over a decade. If I haven’t used them in that much time, I probably never will! And it will be much more inspiring to work in a pretty room. This is very un-inspiring:

10-Refinish the chairs in my garage.
I have two chairs that have been sitting in my garage for months waiting for a makeover. One is halfway finished, the other hasn’t even been touched. I plan on putting them in the family room.

I have a few other small projects in mind, but that’s the major list. What are your DIY plans for the coming year?

Here’s to a fabulous and productive 2013!!

  1. Hi Kara, I am so glad Maggie from over at Smashed Peas and Carrots told me about your blog! It’s nice to know my craft room isn’t the only one that has organization issues. I have pictures of it on my blog where it looks deceivingly organized (Frame it with Paint), the truth is the floor is not visible!
