Ingredients
  

Cinnamon Swirl

  • 1 cup bran flakes very finely crushed
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter

Biscuits

  • 2 ¾ cups all purpose flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • ½ cup frozen butter
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup *raisins

Icing

  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 tsp milk (or more if needed)

Instructions
 

  • For cinnamon swirl: Stir together crushed bran flakes, cinnamon, brown sugar, and butter in a small bowl till well combined. Set aside.
  • For biscuits: Combine flour sugar, salt, and baking powder in a large mixing bowl. Grate in the frozen butter. (Or if you prefer, you can use cold butter and cut it in with a pastry blender.) Stir together.
  • Whisk together milk, eggs, and vanilla till well blended. Add raisins. Pour wet ingredients over flour mixture and mix lightly just till combined. Gently fold in the cinnamon swirl mixture.
  • Pat dough to 1″ thickness and cut into circles. Place on a lightly greased or silicone lined cookie sheet. For best results, place entire pan of biscuits in the freezer for 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 425° for 15-18 minutes or till lightly browned. Cool for about 5 minutes, then drizzle with glaze.
  • For glaze: Mix all ingredients together till smooth, adding enough milk to get the right consistency.

Notes

We don’t eat raisins very fast at my house, so sometimes they get pretty dried out. I like to plump them up by soaking them in hot water for about 30 minutes, then draining them really well before adding them to the biscuit dough.
