Sinful Caramel Sauce

Several of you have asked for the recipe for applesauce bread that I mentioned yesterday. I plan on posting it, but I want to make it one more time first, just to make sure I have it absolutely perfect. But don’t worry, I promise I will share.

In the meantime, enjoy this amazingly delicious caramel sauce. I got it from my friend Margie several years ago. She served it over bananas and vanilla ice cream. Heavenly! It is so easy to make, and it stores really well in the fridge. It does thicken up quite a bit when cold, so make sure you heat it up before you serve it. We love it over ice cream, but it would work in any recipe that calls for caramel sauce. I think it would be fabulous drizzled over a piece of apple pie. Oh my. I think I need to try that very soon. 🙂

Oh, and don’t be put off by the cinnamon. I thought it was a strange ingredient too, but it is what makes this caramel sauce different from all the rest. And it is so yummy!

 Sinful Hot Caramel Sauce

3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup cream
1 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp vanilla
Combine all ingredients but vanilla in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil for 2 minutes. Add vanilla. Let cool for a few minutes. Serve warm with ice cream.
