Made this and was delicious but was salty and I added nothing that wasn’t listed above. But I read somewhere that you need to rinse the black beans before adding because they tend to be salty from the can.

I never rinse my beans, but that could be a factor. Different brands of taco seasoning and ranch dressing mix have varying amounts of salt, so that would probably make a bigger difference. I always use my homemade mixes so I can control the amount of salt. 🙂

    Is there no broth added?
    What makes it a soup?

Nope, no broth. Just the juice from the cans of diced tomatoes and the tomato sauce. It’s a nice and chunky soup. But you can add broth if you want to thin it out.

Husband doesn’t like tomatoes, can I just use 2 cans of tomatoes and use extra tomatoe sauce?

I think that should work just fine.

Recipe states 4 15 ounce can tomatoes…is this correct or should it read 1 15 ounce can?

No, it’s four 15 ounce cans. But I’ve also made it with three cans and it works just fine. One would definitely not be enough. 🙂

I tried on my end, and it works just fine. Are you clicking on the print button on the card and nothing is happening?

Do you think ground venison instead of ground beef would turn out good with this meal?

If you have used ground venison for tacos or other similar meals and like it, I think it would work just as well for this one. 🙂

Will canned corn work or does it need to be frozen?

Great soup. My second time making it in my crockpot. I had made extra meat for our tacos so used that and added the rest of the ingredients. Added a little more taco seasoning and it was awesome.

What? Is he crazy? Just kidding! Yes, you can omit the ranch dressing mix. You could just add some extra garlic or onion if you want, or just use the taco seasoning. I made it that way for years, and it was still tasty!

Great recipe. I added rotisserie chicken instead of beef and garnished with cilantro. 👌

I bet that was a tasty change! I’ll have to try it with the chicken. And of course you can’t go wrong with fresh cilantro!

You don’t add any water, you just bring the soup to a boil. 🙂
