This hearty and delicious Taco Soup with Ranch Dressing is one of my go-to recipe for hectic evenings. It can be whipped up in just minutes, and everyone loves it!
Soup like this is a staple at our house during the long winter months. I like to serve it with cornbread, soft pretzels, or cornmeal rolls.
Taco Soup Recipe with Ranch
We had a few snow flurries yesterday–fall has officially arrived! At our house, fall means muddy floors, spicy scented candles, yummy baked goods, and lots and lots of soup.
I have updated this recipe to make it even more delicious. The sugar balances out the acidity of the tomatoes, and the ranch dressing mix adds a wonderful flavor. Instead of two cans of kidney beans, I now use one can of black and one can of kidney beans just for variety. We like it even more now!
Taco soup is so popular in my area that I assume everyone already has the recipe. But there might be a few of you out there that have never tried it, so I am posting it for you.
If you haven’t ever made it, you really should. It is super fast to throw together, only dirties one pot, and tastes oh so good. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that doesn’t like it.
We like topping our soup with cheese and chips, but you could also add sour cream, green onions, or avocados. Or you can omit the toppings and it is still a delicious bowl of soup!

Made this and was delicious but was salty and I added nothing that wasn’t listed above. But I read somewhere that you need to rinse the black beans before adding because they tend to be salty from the can.
Reply
I never rinse my beans, but that could be a factor. Different brands of taco seasoning and ranch dressing mix have varying amounts of salt, so that would probably make a bigger difference. I always use my homemade mixes so I can control the amount of salt. 🙂

Is there no broth added?
What makes it a soup?
Reply
Nope, no broth. Just the juice from the cans of diced tomatoes and the tomato sauce. It’s a nice and chunky soup. But you can add broth if you want to thin it out.

Husband doesn’t like tomatoes, can I just use 2 cans of tomatoes and use extra tomatoe sauce?
Reply
I think that should work just fine.

Recipe states 4 15 ounce can tomatoes…is this correct or should it read 1 15 ounce can?
Reply
No, it’s four 15 ounce cans. But I’ve also made it with three cans and it works just fine. One would definitely not be enough. 🙂

Why won’t this recipe print???? So frustrating!!

I tried on my end, and it works just fine. Are you clicking on the print button on the card and nothing is happening?

Do you think ground venison instead of ground beef would turn out good with this meal?
Reply
If you have used ground venison for tacos or other similar meals and like it, I think it would work just as well for this one. 🙂

Will canned corn work or does it need to be frozen?
Reply
Yes, you can use canned corn if you prefer. 🙂

Great soup. My second time making it in my crockpot. I had made extra meat for our tacos so used that and added the rest of the ingredients. Added a little more taco seasoning and it was awesome.

My husband does not like Ranch anyting can I leave the ranch dressing mix off?
Reply
What? Is he crazy? Just kidding! Yes, you can omit the ranch dressing mix. You could just add some extra garlic or onion if you want, or just use the taco seasoning. I made it that way for years, and it was still tasty!

He probably would not even notice it was in there.
