DIY Hallway Wainscoting Reveal

I finally finished painting the trim in our hallway, and I am so excited to show you the results! Aside from painting, this was the first major DIY project that my hubbie and I have tackled inside the house. I got my inspiration from Emily at Decor Chick. She did fake wainscoting on one of her walls, and I just loved it. I’ve been meaning to do it for over a year. Sheesh!
Luckily for me, my awesome brother-in-law Jacob came down after Christmas to help us get the job done. He was a finish carpenter for a few years, so he really knows his stuff. Instead of just doing the job for us, he showed us all of his tricks for cutting and hanging molding. Most of this project was s group effort, but I actually installed one of the boxes all by myself- from the cutting of the wood to the nailing it on. And it was much easier than I thought it would be!

So, are you ready for the hallway reveal?

Here is a “before” shot. It has looked like this for over 8 years. I know, pathetic that it takes me that long to change things up.
diy-hallway wainscotingHere it is after our fake wainscoting:

diy-wainscoting-hallwayNow I just need to get some photos hung on the wall. I’m working on a gallery wall. But I need to do some spray painting. And with an 8 month old, and winter weather working against me, that might take awhile.

Oh, and if you want to try hanging some trim (you do, I promise), I will be sharing Jacob’s tricks of the trade in another post coming up. 🙂

Update: Here is the link to my post where I share tips for installing molding like a pro.

OMG!!!! That’s my hallway upstairs!!!! I’m totally going to try that! Although I don’t think I can go around the corner like Jacob did. Thank you! Is the top one decorative moulding piece? Did you make the boxes or buy pre made? It looks beautiful! Great Job!!! Thanks for posting. If I get up the courage I’ll definately give you a tag back!

Those are always the challenge, aren’t they? I find that if I have one, the other is always in short supply. šŸ˜‰

It looks so great! I love that wainscoating! I painted in our front room and got everything ready to do it – but haven’t yet – it has been waiting for months – but your post is giving me the motivation to get in and get it done!
