How To Organize Movies

Organizing.
When you read that word, do you cringe? Or are you like me? When I think of organizing, I do a little happy dance in my head.  🙂
I love organizing, and making list. And organizing my lists. . . it’s a sickness really.

Now that Christmas is over and packed away, I am in cleaning and organizing mode. I love it when I find organizing tips or products that help me organize all of our stuff. Especially kid stuff. Because it has a way of taking over my world. I actually got this idea from a neighbor a long time ago. Can’t believe I’ve never shared it before. Because it is simple, but so amazing. It all started when we called and asked to borrow a few movies to entertain a sick kiddo. They gave us a little zippered case of DVDs. I’d never seen anything like it. Almost 100 movies in a tiny little case. I was amazed. And delighted. And jealous. I wanted one right that minute. Because our stash of movies looked something like this:
how-to-organize-moviesI had organized them before, but they had outgrown the bins and were spilling out everywhere. So I went out and bought a couple of these organizing cases:
how-to-organize-moviesI bought mine at Shopko if I remember right, but I’ve seen them in just about every store that has an electronics section. At first it was a little hard to throw away all those DVD covers, but I quickly got over it and I can assure you that we don’t miss them AT ALL! Because now all the movies fit in a tiny little space:

Are you organizing anything this week? I’d love to hear your ideas and tips!

Saving a space is only the first level 🙂 The next level – is to make a good electronic catalog of your movie collection. I am using All My Movies software for this:

Great idea. We did this to all of our cd’s. Now that we are uploading all of our cd’s onto itunes, we really don’t even use the discs anymore. Anyhoo, hope you’re having a grand evening/ Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse

Give the cases to your local library. They can always use them!

That is a great idea! Wish I would have thought of it earlier before I tossed them. I’ll have to do it from now on. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve been trying to get my hubby to do the same thing for awhile now. We have a small house so I thought it would eliminate some clutter. Might do it to son’s room anyways.

No, I don’t keep the pictures. Most of the kid movies have pictures on the actual DVD, and by the time they graduate from those, they can read the titles on them. 🙂
