If there’s one side dish that everyone in my family can agree on, it’s potatoes. We love them in all of their tasty varieties!
It’s amazing that a packet of dry onion soup mix can transform a humble vegetable into a dish that is simply sensational!
Most recipes just call for a packet of onion soup mix and a little oil, but I think the addition of garlic powder and pepper ramp up the flavor even more. They are so, so good!
Whether you are serving crispy baked chicken strips or pot roast, Lipton onion soup potatoes are a great option.
How do you make potatoes with Lipton onion soup?
- PREP – Spray a large rimmed sheet pan with cooking spray. Preheat your oven to 450°.
- POTATOES – Scrub potatoes and cut them into 1/2″ cubes.
- COMBINE – Place the cubed potatoes in a large mixing bowl. Add the olive oil; stir to coat. Then add the dry mix, garlic, and pepper; stir again.
- ROAST – Spread the potatoes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for about 30 minutes, stirring after 15 minutes.

PRO TIPS:
- Cutting the potatoes into cubes that are roughly the same size ensures that they will bake evenly. But don’t stress too much -some people prefer the tiny chunks that are extra crispy, while some prefer the larger, more tender pieces. So it’s okay to have some of both!
- Dark pans are best for browning foods. Brand new, shiny pans, tend to steam the potatoes instead of crisping them up. So if you like the crispy edges, use an old pan that has darkened.
Lipton Onion Roasted Potatoes Variations:
- I like russets because they crisp up really well, but red potatoes or Yukon gold potatoes will also work. You could even try sweet potatoes.
- Vegetable oil or even melted butter can be used instead of olive oil.
- If you want the potatoes saucy and tender instead of crispy, you can bake them in a 13×9-inch baking dish covered with aluminum foil.
- You can cut the potatoes into large chunks, but you will need to increase the cooking time.

Notes

- We like the potatoes golden brown and crispy, but you can just cook them for 20 minutes until they are tender.
