Framed Monogram with Paper Flowers

This is the project that I entered in the KSL Studio5 $5 craft challenge.
diy-decor-monogram
Not that I was expecting to win grand prize or anything, but I was a little disappointed with some of the finalists they chose. They were great projects, but I’ve seen them a million times on other decorating blogs. I was hoping for some new creative ideas. Oh well. Apparently their judges don’t read as many blogs as I do! 😉

I decided to combine two of my favorite things: monograms and burlap. Love them both!! I also wanted to try something I’ve never worked with before. I love all the book page art I’ve seen in blogland, so I decided to try my hand at it. Then of course I had to frame it, because everything looks better framed, right? I love how it turned out, and it cost less than $5. Bonus!

Framed Monogram with Paper Flowers

I started with a monogram  that I picked up at a craft store when it was on sale. Honestly you could probably just cut a monogram from a piece of cardboard if you wanted to.
framed-monogram-paper flowerI used a frame that I got at the thrift store for $1.
framed-monogram-paper flowerThen I busted out my BFF- spray paint! Painted the frame red and the monogram black.

Pull the burlap tight and tape it to the back of the glass. I just used masking tape.

Then I made a bunch of paper flowers in different sizes using this tutorial. I arranged them till they looked how I wanted, then I hot glued them to the monogram.
The last step was just attaching the monogram to the burlap with hot glue. Easy!
Here it is all finished:
framed-monogram-paper flowerHow do you like it? Have you used book pages to decorate with yet? It sure is fun!

I like that you took elements popular in blogland {burlap, spray paint, monograms, and book pages} and made your own creative project. I really love the final product. šŸ™‚

Stopping by from Making the World Cuter. I LOVE this! I have been searching and searching for a project to do with an old book of mine. I tried to make the flower rosettes wreath and I didn’t get very far, But this looks like something I can do! I have seen a lot of book page projects and this by far is my favorite! Thank you!

I love those paper flowers. I think they’d be pretty made of sheet music and used in some kind of music room decor too.

It took me awhile to get to it, but I’m so glad I did. Fun to use, and much cheaper than buying scrapbook paper!
