Decorating the wall above the couch in our family room has been a work in progress for a few months. I showed the first transformation here, then I updated it an added candles with burlap roses. It looked like this:
Nice, but I wanted to add something to the mirror.

I wanted to add a little patriotic touch for the 4th of July, so I decided to make a rosette star. I worked up a short tutorial in case you'd like to make a Fourth of July wreath of your own. I started by tracing a start onto a piece of cardboard, and then drawing an outline around it.
I used an exacto knife to cut out the middle, then I cut the outside with a pair of kitchen shears.
Next I got to work making little blue rosettes. It took me quite awhile! Then it was time to glue them on. (I used hot glue.) I learned by sad mistake that you must glue a rose onto each of the points FIRST. If you don't, they end up spaced unevenly and your star turns out lopsided and funky looking. Yep, I had to rip all my rosettes off the first attempt and start over. Learn from my mistake and do this first:
Then fill in all your spaces.
After that was done I needed a way to attach the wreath to the mirror. I screwed an eyehook into the back center of the mirror frame.
Then I attached a piece of wire to the back of the wreath, making a loop.
I attached the star to the bottom of the loop using a piece of thread.
I threaded a piece of wide ribbon through the top of the loop. (Sorry, the photo's blurry.)
Then I threaded one end of the ribbon through the eyehook on the back of the frame. Adjusted it till it was the right height, and then tied it around the eyehook. Now if I want to replace it, all I have to do is untie the ribbon.

I barely got this project done in time for the CSI challenge this week. The theme is Frames, Art, and Wall Decor. It ends today at noon. Wheew. Better late than never, right?
