Product Review-Frog Tape

I just finished painting my kitchen. Can I hear a shout out?! I’ve been talking about it for months. I thought I would never be able to get to it. I wondered if I would ever actually be able to get the wallpaper adhesive off in my lifetime. 😉 And now it is done. Woohoo!!

I have been trying a few new painting products, and I’ve found a few that I love. They made my job much easier. And as every DIY painter knows, any trick that makes a job go faster is awesome! So I’m sharing them with you. The first one I have actually used twice now. I ran out of blue tape while painting my living room a few months ago. Happened to mention it on my blog. Michelle at Someday Crafts suggested that I try Frog Tape.

diy-paintingI bought some (at Walmart), and boy am I glad that I did. Bought it that is, not shopped at Walmart. Man their lines are loooong. Anyway, the Frog Tape costs a little more than regular blue painter’s tape, but I thought it worked sooo much better. Left absolutely straight lines with no bleed through whatsoever. And it comes in a little storage container that keeps the ends from getting all kinds of fuzz stuck to them.

I just used it again yesterday while painting my kitchen.

(Can’t wait to show you the after photos btw.) I am a total frog tape fan now. It makes painting much easier, and that rocks! Thanks Michelle!

Note: The Frog Tape company did not compensate me in any way for this review. They’ve never even heard of me and have no idea that I painted my living room. Or my kitchen.  I purchased this tape with my hard earned cash. 😉

This Frog Tape product may work on some surfaces… But I suggest you be VERY CAREFUL…. this VERY EXPENSIVE tape ruined my kitchen cabinet… Sure; it prevented paint from getting on them at the edge… But when I peeled the tape off, it took the finish off the cabinets. You’d be better off cutting in by hand. I now have to replace an expensive cabinet because I took a short cut and trusted a product that got fair reviews on the web, but provided ZERO warning about the potential pitfalls of its use. Save your money and use a little extra effort. Don’t make the same mistake I made by trusting this lame product.

Oh man, that’s terrible! I guess for some surfaces it is not a good idea. Thanks for letting me know.

Worst mistake I made was purchasing Frog Tape for my ceiling. After 30 minutes, it removed the sheetrock tape, ceiling paint, and primer. My ceiling is ruined.

Less than 2 years ago, I used blue tape without any negative effects.

I was repainting my Master Bedroom and wanted a medium brown boarder to frame our oak headboard. Because I wanted a crisp edge I paid the extra money for the FrogTape. I even followed the special instructions on their web site for textured walls and spent at least 30 extra minutes pressing the tape down firmly to the wall. The result? Just as crappy a feathered edge as any other masking tape. Will I have to touch up? Oh yea…and I’m looking at another 2 hours just to fix the mess! Will I buy the FrogTape again? Nope, that’s one jump I won’t make again. If you have a perfectly smooth surface it might work.

Yay for getting your kitchen done! Too bad I didn’t know about that tape a year ago before we painted our whole house!

I too love Frog tape! I used it to stripe my walls and they came out perfectly!

I think wall texture makes a huge difference too. I’ve tried both tapes and on my really textured walls neither did well, but on the normalish walls the green blog frog tape did great! Can’t wait to see the pictures!

I think I just saw a commercial for that stuff! Something about it forms a gel barrier or something, right? I’ll have to give it a try when we paint our bedroom. We tried one of those edger paint thingies, but I’m not thrilled with the results with that. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah! It does rock! I’m so glad it worked as well for you as it did for me. For painting stripes, it is an absolute must!!!! Can’t wait to see the pics!

I haven’t painted stripes on walls yet, but I bet it would be a total lifesaver for that!

I awarded you with the Versatile Blogger Award on my piano blog…. it took me 3 months to actually accept my award, so don’t worry about accepting it if you don’t want to. I just thought I’d send a few more people your way.
