Looking for a festive and delicious Easter treat that’s easy to make? These Rice Krispie treats are the perfect solution!

With just a few simple ingredients and some creative decorating, you can whip up a batch of adorable and tasty treats that are sure to be the hit of your Easter celebration!

1 RECIPE, 3 DIFFERENT EASTER RICE KRISPIE TREATS!

I am sharing three variations with you today; you can choose the one that looks the best to you. When my kids were younger and would help me, they usually like the nests the best. Extra candy-duh!

I’d have them pour in the ingredients, then fill the nests with candy. Some of them were very meticulous, making sure each nest had one egg of each color.

These Easter recipe is perfect for kids, so go grab your kidlets and stir up an Easter memory. Pretty soon they will think they are way too cool to help mom in the kitchen, so seize the moment!

Method 1 – Decorate with Candy

After whipping up a batch of rice krispy treats, simply stir your favorite Easter candy into the mix, or press some on top after pressing them in the pan.

We like to use milk chocolate M&M’s, but you could also use peanut M&M’s jelly beans, mini Cadbury eggs, robin eggs, or gumdrops. Any candy with fun Easter colors will work!

(NOTE – I made half a batch and pressed them into a square 8×8″ pan. I used another half batch for nests and eggs.)

Method #2 -Make Easter egg rice krispie

After pressing the treats into a pan, dump them out onto the counter. Use Easter egg cookie cutters to cut them into shapes.

I made easter egg rice krispies treats, but of course carrots, bunnies, chicks, or even flowers would be cute as well. I drizzled them with pastel chocolate melts and added Easter sprinkles.

Alternatively, you could make rice krispie easter eggs by rolling the cereal mixture into egg shapes, then decorate the same way.

Method #3 -Shape the Treats into Nests

After mixing the Rice Krispie cereal with the melted marshmallow mixture, shape them into little nests. I like to form them on silicon mats so they have a flat bottom, and won’t stick.

Let them harden for 30 minutes or so, then fill them with egg shaped candy. I used Cadbury mini eggs, but peanut M&M’s, jelly beans, and Reese’s pieces eggs also work great.

HOW TO MAKE RICE KRISPIES FOR EASTER

  1. PREP – Butter the sides and bottom of an 9×13″ baking dish; set aside. Measure out the rice krispies cereal.
  2. MELT – In a large glass bowl, melt the butter in the microwave. Add the mini marshmallows. Continue melting in the microwave, stirring every 20-30 seconds. process shots - melting marshmallows for rice crispy treats
  3. CEREAL – Stir in the vanilla and salt. Then add the rice krispies and stir until they are all evenly coated.

OPTIONAL -If you are adding candy, now is the time to stir it in.
  4. FORM – Either press the mixture into the buttered dish, or form into nests. I like to just use wet hands, but you can also butter your hands if you prefer. process shots - pan of rice krispie treats and a rice krispie nest
  5. CUT – You can either cut the pan into squares, or dump the mixture out and cut it out with cookie cutters.
  6. DECORATE – Drizzle with melted chocolate, candy melts, or icing. I like to use a ziplock bag with the corner snipped. Add sprinkles if desired.

How to store leftovers

Either wrap the leftover treats in plastic wrap, or stack them in an airtight container with waxed paper in between layers.

They will last for 3-4 days at room temperature. If you like them soft, you can pop them in the microwave for about 10 seconds before eating.

FAQ’S

How far in advance can I make rice crispy treats for a party?

You can make them up to 3 days ahead if you wrap them well. If you are making the bars, don’t cut them until the day you will be serving them. That will prevent them from drying out.

Why are my rice krispie treats hard?

If you cook the marshmallows too long, your treats won’t be as soft. Cook them just until they are barely melted.
Also, don’t press the mixture too firmly into the pan. If they are too dense, they are harder to bite into.
Make sure to store them at room temperature, not in the refrigerator. They are not as soft when they are chilled.

  • Easter Cookie Cutters – 9 Pieces – Stainless Steel/Comfort Grips
  • Pyrex Smart Essentials 8-Piece Mixing Bowl Set

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons salted butter
  • 16 ounces mini marshmallows about 10 cups
  • ¼ tsp vanilla
  • pinch of salt
  • 7 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
  • Optional: M&Ms Easter candy, melted chocolate, sprinkles

Instructions

  • Butter a 9×13" pan and set aside. Measure the rice krispie cereal into a bowl.
  • In a large glass bowl, melt the butter in the microwave. Add the marshmallows. Continue to cook, stirring every 20-30 seconds, until the marshmallows are melted.
  • Stir in the vanilla and salt. Add the cereal and quickly stir until completely coated with marshmallows. If adding candy, stir it in as well.
  • Press the cereal mixture into the prepared pan using wet hands. (Or form them into nests.) I like to press additional candy into the top of the bars.
  • Cut into squares, or dump out and use Easter shaped cookie cutters.
  • If desired, decorate the bars or shapes with melted chocolate, sprinkles, or candy.

Notes

  • Instead of using butter, I like to dip my hands in a glass of water to keep the rice crispy mixture from sticking.
  • Don’t press the cereal mixture too firmly into the pan, or your squares will be hard to bite into.
  • For thicker bars, you can use a 7×11″ pan instead of a 9×13″.
  • You can fill the nests with green frosting before adding the candy, but I think it makes them a little too sweet.
