These Oreo Mint Chocolate Cookies are filled with chocolate chips, mint M&M’s, and chunks of Oreo cookies. They are a perfect Christmas cookie!

Chocolate and mint are a perfect holiday combination in my book. During the Christmas season, we also love baking mint brownies, chocolate mint truffle cookies, and chocolate mint chip cookies.

A few weeks ago I had an idea for a cookie I wanted to try. It involved mint M&M’s (love those things), and Oreos. I bought both said items and stashed them away where they would not be discovered and devoured by my ever-hungry clan.

On Tuesday when I was checking out my favorite blogs, I saw that my cute friend Kristyn at Lil’ Luna had come up with. . . guess what? The very same cookies that I had been dreaming about creating! Is that a strange coincidence or what?  I guess great baking minds think alike!

After seeing her rave about how yummy the cookies turned out, and how they tasted like Thin Mints (double yummo), I just had to give ’em a try.

But of course being the chocoholic I am, I changed them up a bit. Kristyn’s cookies start with a chocolate chip cookie dough, so I decided to go with my favorite chocolate base.

The results were over the top yummy! If you love Thin Mints (who doesn’t?), you’ve gotta give these a try. With the red, green, and white M&M’s, they are perfect for Christmas.  Use just the green, and they would be just perfect for St. Patrick’s Day.

How to make the best Mint Chocolate Oreo Cookies:

  • You want your butter to be soft, but not too melted. Make sure you cream the butter and sugars till they are very light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs and vanilla till well blended.
  • Whisk together the dry ingredients, and if your cocoa or flour is lumpy, you should sift the mixture. Add to the creamed mixture, and stir just till blended. Stir in the Oreos, M&M’s, and chocolate chips.
  • Roll dough into balls and placed on silpat lined or lightly greased cookie sheets. I like to press a few M&M’s onto the top of each cookie for a pretty bakery look.
  • Bake the cookies at 350° for about 8-10 minutes.

How can I adapt these Oreo mint chocolate chip cookies?

  • I’ve made them with mint Oreos in place of regular Oreos, and that adds an extra punch of mint flavor.
  • You can use milk chocolate or white chocolate chips in place of the semi sweet chocolate chips.
  • If you can’t find mint M&M’s, you can try using chopped up Andes mints instead.

Do you think I could use Andes Candies broken into smaller pieces if I can’t find mint m&m?

Mine actually were the leftover Christmas ones. I had to pick out the red ones. LOL! I found them at a little grocery store by my house. But I know that Kristyn said she got hers at Walmart.
