Perfect Ice Cream for chocolate peanut butter lovers!

I am obsessed with any chocolate and peanut butter combination, and ice cream is one of my favorite treats, so it’s only natural that I came up with a recipe that incorporates both.

To come up with the peanut butter chocolate base, I adapted my recipe for burnt almond fudge ice cream. I added some peanut butter to it, and I love the boost of peanut butter flavor.

The peanut butter swirls take it up a notch. You guys, they are simply divine!

Whether you’re a chocolate lover, a peanut butter enthusiast, or simply someone who enjoys a delicious homemade ice cream, this chocolate peanut butter ice cream is sure to please.

How to make homemade Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream

  1. ICE CREAM MIXTURE – In a large sauce pan, whisk together the cocoa powder and sweetened condensed milk. Cook and stir over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and creamy.

Remove from the heat and whisk in the peanut butter, then the milk, cream, and vanilla. Cover and chill until very cold, 4-5 hours.
  2. PEANUT BUTTER MIXTURE – Stir together the peanut butter and powdered sugar until smooth. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to use.peanut butter swirl
  3. CHURN – Pour the cold chocolate mixture into the bowl of an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.ice cream churing in a cuisinart
  4. FREEZE – Layer the churned ice cream and the cold chunks of peanut butter in a freezer-safe container. I love this insulated ice cream container!
Freeze for at least 3 hours, or until firm enough to scoop.

I love to top my ice cream with peanut butter sauce, or a drizzle of melted peanut butter. Delish!

PRO TIPS:

  • For the creamiest, best ice cream, you need to use heavy cream or whipping cream. Light cream (half & half) can lead to ice crystals in your ice cream.
  • To speed up the chilling process, you can place the bowl of ice cream mixture in an ice bath.

VARIATIONS:

  • For a darker chocolate ice cream, you can either add additional cocoa powder or some semi-sweet chocolate chips to the sweetened condensed milk before cooking.
  • Using chunky instead of smooth peanut butter adds a nice bit of crunch.
  • You can’t go wrong stirring in chopped peanut butter cups after churning the ice cream.
