A buttery crumb topping makes this peach muffin recipe extra special! They are soft, moist, and packed with juicy peach chunks.

When peach season rolls around, we like to buy a box of peaches from a local orchard. We eat most of them right from the box, but I also like to use them in baking.
Last week I made a peach bundt cake, and it was a huge hit. This week I decided to incorporate them into a breakfast recipe.
We love the flavor of almond extract with peaches, so I used it in these muffins. Buttermilk makes them nice and moist, and they have plenty of fresh peach chunks!
But the best part just might be the buttery streusel topping. It adds delightful crunch to every bite. These are definitely the best peach muffins I’ve ever tasted!

How to Make Peach Muffins
- TOPPING – Combine flour, sugar, and butter in a medium bowl. Mix until crumbly.

- PREP – Spray 18 muffin cups with cooking spray or use muffin liners. (You will need two muffin tins.) Peel and chop the peaches. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
- DRY INGREDIENTS – In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- WET INGREDIENTS – Combine sugar and eggs in a large mixing bowl; whisk for about two minutes. Add the eggs, melted butter, oil, buttermilk, vanilla, and almond extract, and whisk until smooth. Dump in the flour mixture, stir just until combined, and fold in the chopped peaches.

- BAKE – Fill the 18 muffin cups with batter; sprinkle with about a tablespoon of crumb topping.

Bake muffins at 425° for 10 minutes. Turn the heat down to 350° and bake for another 12-15 minutes.
- COOL – Let the hot muffins sit in the pan for 5 minutes, then carefully transfer to a cooling rack.

Tips for the Best Peach Muffins
- Use ripe peaches. The sweeter the peaches, the better your muffins will taste. Look for peaches that are fragrant and slightly soft but not mushy.
- Don’t overmix the batter. Stir just until the flour is incorporated. Overmixing can make muffins dense or tough.
- Finely dice the peaches. Smaller pieces ensure that you get a peach chunk in every bite.
- Correct oven temperature. Baking the muffins at a high temperature for a few minutes ensures that you will get bakery-style muffins with high domes. Turning down the heat allows the middle to cook without the outside burning.
- Don’t overbake. Remove the muffins as soon as a toothpick comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. Overbaking can dry them out.
Peach Muffin Recipe Variations:
- Peach Blueberry Muffins: Use half blueberries and half peaches.
- Cinnamon Peach Muffins: Add a teaspoon of ground cinnamon to the dry ingredients as well as the crumb topping.
- Peach Almond Muffins: Increase the almond extract to a teaspoon. Add 1/3 cup of crushed sliced almonds to the topping for a delicious nutty crunch.
- Plain Peach Muffins: Omit the topping and bake the muffins as is, or sprinkle them with coarse sugar.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to peel peaches for muffins?
For best results, you do need to peel the peaches. The skin tends to give the muffins a fibrous texture.
Can I use frozen peaches or canned peaches?
Fresh peaches work best, but you can use frozen if you need to. Let them thaw, dice them, and pat them dry before adding them to the batter.
I personally don’t care for the flavor of canned peaches, but if you like them, you can use them. They have a softer, wetter texture, so you will need to drain and pat them dry before adding them to the batter.
Why are my peach muffins soggy?
Extra moisture from very juicy peaches can make muffins soggy. I like to bake my muffins on a lower oven rack to ensure that the bottom of the muffins turns golden brown.
Can I make mini peach muffins?
Yes, you can make mini muffins, but I recommend cutting the recipe in half, or you will end up with over 50 mini muffins. You will need to decrease the baking time to 12-15 minutes and just bake them at 375°.
