Need a quick dinner idea? This cabbage and kielbasa recipe is an explosion of flavor, and it’s ready in under 30 minutes! A great recipe for busy nights!

I love a good skillet meal, especially one that’s loaded with both protein veggies so I don’t have to worry about making a bunch of side dishes.

This cabbage sausage skillet fits the bill perfectly. It’s going to be your new favorite cabbage recipe!

On its own, fresh cabbage is pretty bland. But combine it with salty kielbasa and a few other simple ingredients, and your taste buds will be dancing!

My whole family loves this delicious meal, and I hope yours does too. I usually serve it on its own, or with fresh fruit like watermelon. But if you are looking for a side dish, here are a few suggestions.

What to eat with kielbasa and cabbage?

  • A simple vegetable like steamed broccoli or green beans.
  • Easy garlic mashed potatoes, homemade rolls, or corn are always a hit.
  • To balance out the savory flavors in the dish, serve fruit salad.

How to make kielbasa cabbage skillet

  1. PREP – Wash the head of cabbage and cut it into 1-inch pieces. Dice the onion and the sausage.
  2. BROWN – Heat the oil in a skillet over medium high heat. Add the sausage; cook and stir for about 5 minutes or until it starts to brown. Stir in the onions and cook for another two minutes.
  3. SAUTE – Add the minced garlic, cabbage, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and vinegar.
Continue cooking and stirring until the cabbage cooks down and becomes tender, about 3-5 minutes.

  4. SERVE – As soon as the cabbage is barely tender, remove the whole dish from the stove. Serve hot.

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. You can reheat in the microwave, or in a small skillet.

PRO TIPS:

  • Make sure you scrape up all the browned bits at the bottom of the pan, they add a lot of flavor!
  • Don’t overcook the cabbage or it becomes soggy and slimy. Just cook it until it is barely tender.

Cabbage Kielbasa Skillet Variations:

  • Feel free to add your favorite vegetables. Bell peppers are tasty, but you can get creative with whatever you have on hand.
  • Turkey kielbasa can be used if you want a dish that is lower in fat.
  • For a spicier dish, add some red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, or a splash of hot sauce.
  • In place of the olive oil, you can use avocado oil, bacon drippings or a little butter.
  • We like this cabbage dinner as is, but you can serve it alongside egg noodles, white rice, or even mashed potatoes.

  • T-Fal Refresh Ceramic Nonstick Frying Pan Skillet 12-Inch, Oven Safe to 350°F

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 pound kielbasa sausage sometimes called Polish sausage

  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 8 cups chopped green cabbage
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp rice wine vinegar

Instructions

  • Slice the sausage lengthwise into halves or quarters, then cut into bite-sized pieces. Wash and chop the cabbage into 1 inch pieces. Dice the onion.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the sausage for about 5 minutes or until browned. Add the onions and cook for another 2 minutes.
