Strawberry Donuts with Strawberry Cream Cheese Frosting – if you love a good strawberry donut, give this yummy recipe a try. The frosting is incredible!

My kids loved my cinnamon sugar donuts so much that they have been begging me to try different flavors of baked donuts. I finally got around to it. We had some fresh strawberries one Saturday morning, so I decided to give strawberry donuts a try. Oh boy. These turned out so yummy!

The fresh strawberries in the batter make these donuts extra moist, and so pretty. They are definitely more dense than my cinnamon sugar donuts, but my kids loved them!

And don’t get me started on the frosting. Oh goodness. It could be consumed by the spoonful. But we managed to get it onto the top of the donuts. The tartness of the berries is a perfect compliment to the sweet frosting. Seriously yummy stuff here!

I love the pretty pink color of these donuts. I think they would be so fun for a baby or bridal shower. But of course you can just serve them for everyday brunch like I did. Your family is sure to love them!

If you’ve never made baked donuts before, don’t be scared. It is so simple! If you can make muffins, you can make a strawberry donut. All you need is a donut pan. I have the Wilton non-stick donut pan, and I highly recommend it! It works like a charm, and is even dishwasher safe. It makes donut making a breeze!

How to make Strawberry Donuts

Ingredients needed:

  • all purpose flour
  • granulated sugar
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • milk (I use 2% milk.)
  • large egg
  • butter, melted (I used salted butter.)
  • fresh strawberries (Frozen berries tend to add too much moisture to the donuts.)
  • cream cheese (Let it sit out on the counter for a few hours till it is soft.)
  • powdered sugar

Directions: Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl. In a small bowl, whisk together milk, egg, melted butter, and berries. Add to the dry ingredients and stir lightly till just moistened.

Pour batter into a freezer ziplock bag. Snip the corner and squeeze the batter into well greased donut pans. Bake at 425° for 8-9 minutes or till lightly browned.

Remove from pans. Cool and frost with strawberry cream cheese frosting.

I got 11 using my pampered chef donut pan. Are there different sizes of pans? They came out kind of chewy and dense. My first time making baked donuts, so I won’t give up, but would like to fix any errors on my part.

Donut pan sizes definitely could vary, so it’s fine that you got 11, but since they were smaller, they probably needed less bake time. If they were dense and chewy, it probably just means you overworked the batter. You want to use a very light touch when you stir in the wet ingredients. If you stir too much, it activates the gluten, which leads to chewy quick breads (or donuts in this case). Hope that helps!

I made extra frosting. Does it need to be refrigerated because of the cream cheese?

Yes, I would refrigerate any leftover frosting.

Hello Kara! Thank you for sharing this recipe with us 🙂 my nieces and I made them tonight and we loved them, especially the strawberry cream cheese frosting! Soo good. However, the donut tasted more like a bagel, than a donut… maybe because it was baked rather than deep fried? Anyway, still yummy! Thanks:)

It will definitely taste more like a cake donut than a yeast fried donut, but hopefully it wasn’t as chewy as a bagel. 🙂 And yes, the frosting does make them yummy!

Just a question, does the frosting harden enough to stack without sticking? I’m hoping to do a donut stacked wedding cake with them.
    Thanks

Would this recipe work well for a cupcake size/pan? I don’t have a donut pan but have a bunch pf strawberries I’d like to use soon.

Yes, you can use a cupcake pan. They will take longer to bake, and I’d guess you would get about 10 muffins, but I haven’t tried it so I’m not quite sure. Let me know how they turn out!

I don’t know if out was the strawberries I used, but these donuts were quite tasteless. The frosting however was the star!

Strawberries do affect the flavor, but they do need the frosting. Just like all donuts, without some type of glaze, frosting, or cinnamon sugar, they are not very tasty. I inadvertently tried a plain baked donut from a bakery once, and it was awful! Haha.

I know it’s been a long time since this question was asked, but based on the amount of flour that the recipe calls for it should make 6 doughnuts (Original spelling).

The recipe makes 8 donuts, so you will need two donut pans.
